"BE THE DIFFERENCE.....MAKE THE DIFFERENCE"
by Janet Wainaina
Yesterday at Faith life Chapel Hemel Hemstead I was honoured to host an exceptionally transformative conference organised by Rev Simon Mwonga and pastor Grace Mwonga with great coordination of none other than Madam Eva Mbiru. The attendance of the Mayor of Hemel Hemstead Cllr. William Allen, the town constabulary, Other dignitaries like Mind Charity, HAWA Charity and Icane Former Heateacher Yvonne Davis who holds an MBE for her service to education showed the readiness of the wider community to engage actively in finding solutions to.many of our issues like Mental health, you the powerment and coaching among others.
The event objective was to
Identify the challenges the community is facing especially with youth and find solutions in partnership.
The representative of the police Nick, was keen to mention that Community talking to each other brings Long-time problem solving ideas. As a community, we are good at identifying problems but not how it will be solved and by who.
Linda Maciver of Mind matters insisted on the need for early intervention. We are missing the cut off of helping our youth because we intervene when they are way too deep in their challenges.
The mayor was awed by the initiative and the deep thinking conversations in the room and pointed out that the council is committed to work with the community for greater youth empowerment.
The Youth Forum led by Duncan was brutal honest with parents. Talking about them in their absence in the WhatsApp Forums and other platforms does not bring solutions. The youth keywords was "Parents need to listen to understand"
